CHITRAL: The Lower Chitral police on Monday held an awareness session for school and college students in an attempt to arrest the rising trend of suicides among young women, imparting knowledge to them on how to cope with critically adverse situations.
The students were sensitised to the negative impacts of social evils, drug abuse, and harassment. They were told about their rights and safety mechanisms and were inspired to play their role in establishing a safe, conscious, and healthy society.
During the session, the students were allowed to present their problems and concerns through a questionand-answer segment in which they complained about online harassment and a rising sense of insecurity among the young women, which ultimately led them to take their lives.
Addressing the session, district police officer Mohammad Khalid Khan said the younger generation was a valuable asset to the nation. Therefore, collective efforts are indispensable for their positive upbringing, mental and social protection, and a better future.
He urged students not to remain silent during any mental stress or difficult situation, and to seek guidance from parents, teachers, and relevant institutions without hesitation.
He provided detailed awareness regarding the rising trend of suicides, its root causes, prevention, and control. He also highlighted the various types of harassment, safety measures, protection of rights, and the importance of approaching the relevant authorities in a timely manner in any unpleasant situation.
The DPO said that the district police had an exclusive branch on gender issues headed by a young and efficient woman police officer who was available 24/7 to mobilise help and support in the hours of distress.
DIGITAL SCHOOLS: In a major step toward modernising the region’s educational landscape, the district administration launched the ‘Lower Chitral Digital Schools Unified District Education & Learning Management Portal’.
Deputy Commissioner Ihsanullah, while launching the portal, said that the primary objective of this initiative is to bring all government schools under an integrated digital system to boost transparency and improve the overall quality of education.
He said that the platform introduces four separate, dedicated portals tailored for high-level oversight and policy implementation, seamless administrative monitoring and real-time monitoring and accountability.
He said that the unified portal incorporates real-time data to track school performance, student and teacher attendance, homework assignments, exam results and generaleducationalprogress.
‘Beyond student tracking, the system digitises the instructional responsibilities of teachers, general school administration, and the financial records of Parent-Teacher Council funds. For parents, the portal acts as a direct window into the classroom, keeping them informed about their children’s attendance and academic performance,’ he said. Correspondent
