PESHAWAR:The National Accountability Bureau on Saturday arrested a former chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, D.I.Khan, in a case of purchasing land for the board at exorbitant rates.
According to a NAB statement issued here, Noor Mohammad, now working as assistant professor (BPS-19) at Gomal University, was arrested from a guesthouse in Abbottabad with prompt assistance of local police.
It was stated that another co.accused in the case, Abdul Mateen Qasuria, the then deputy district officer revenue and presently serving as secretary district public safety and police complaint commission, D.LKhan, had already been arrested.
The statement said the Investigation estabilshed that former education board chairman in connivance with other accused misused his authority by purchasing private land directly in sheer violation of Land Acquisition Act, 1984, and against the provincial govemment`s instructions at exorbitant rates, causing huge losses to national exchequer.
It was stated that without securing title and possession of the land, the govemment money was transferred and kept in the account of the landowner.
NAB has already recovered Rs72 million from the landowner through voluntary return.
The statement said the accused would be produced before the accountability court for obtaining his physical remand.
