Two women `tortured at behest of court superintendent`

UMERKOT: A lady medical officer and a lady health visitor of the District Headquarters Hospital Umerkot have claimed that the superintendent of District Court Umerkot had abused them and subjected them to ruthless torture through lady police in a courtroom for refusing to visit the residence of a civil judge for treatment of his son.
Speaking to journalists at the local press club onThursday, lady medical officer Dr Kiran and LHW Tejan said they were performing duty at the DHQ`s Hospital Umerkot where a person posing himself as a police guard of a civil judge of Umerkot came and asked them to accompany him for treatment of a son of a civil judge at his residence.
The women added that they suggested him to ask the medical superintendent of the hospital because theycould not leave the hospital without his permission. On this, the guard left.
After leaving the hospital, when the two ladies reached their homes, they saw police vans at their houses.
The police told them that they had been called at the court. `As we reached the court, Superintendent of District Court Akbar Rahimoo abused us, humiliated us and ordered the ladypolice to `teach us a lesson` in the courtroom. The lady police tortured us with 1(icks, fists and slaps on our faces in presence of three lawyers and court staff.
The women demanded justice.
MS of the Civil Hospital Dr Jam Kumbhar said that he was already facing a case in the same court so he could not give his version on the matter.
SSP Usman Aijaz Bajwasaid that he had called the lady police constables to inquire into the matter and if allegations proved to be true, he would deal with the matter as per prescribed procedure. He added that he would also talk with the district and sessions court judge about the matter.
Lawyers expressed anger over the incident, and said they would file a petition to pursue the matter legally.
