Notices to mayor, others over stalls in public park

KARACHI: A civil judge and judicial magistrate (South) on Friday issued notices to the Karachi mayor, the Karachi commissioner, chairman of the District Municipal Corporation South and others on an application over alleged encroachment in a public park.

The judge directed them along with the SHO of the Boat Basin police station to submit their respective reports regarding alleged illegal constructions of stalls on the jogging track in the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park on the next date.

Naming Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar, DG KDA, director (parks and recreation) and the chairman of DMC South as defendants, plaintiff Mohammad Ramish Farhat and others had moved an application over blockage/encroachments on a jogging track in the public park due to construction of stalls for a funfair to be inaugurated on August 13 in the park.

Theircounselarguedthat the people, who visited the park for walking and jogging, had been hindered from healthy activities due to the alleged blockage and pleaded to order them to remove such encroachments immediately.

After preliminary hearing on the application, the civil judge and judicial magistrate concerned issued notices to the plaintiffs and the SHO with direction to submit their respective reports onthenextdate and adjourned the hearing.
