Bank borrowings fall by 8.64pc

ACCORDING to > the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended Jan 19, deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks stood at Rs11,923.348 billion after a 0.23 per cent decrease over the preceding week`s figure of Rs11,950.892bn. Compared with last year`s corresponding figure of Rs10,709.341bn, the current week`s figure was higher by 11.34pc.
Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks stood at Rs11,837.518bn against preceding week`s deposits of Rs11,864.833bn, showing a decline of 0.23pc. Deposits and other accounts of specialised banks stood at Rs85.830bn, lower by 0.26pc against previous week`s figure of Rs86.059bn.
Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs16,483.353bn, lower by 1.48pc over preceding week`s figure of Rs16,730.445bn.
Current week`s figure is higher by 11.90pc compared to last year`s corresponding figure of Rs14,729.221bn.
Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs16,207.978bn, lower by 1.42pc over previous week`s figure of Rs16,441.265bn, while total assets of specialised banks at Rs275.375bnwere lower 4.77pc over the previousweek`sRs.289.180bn.
Borrowings by all scheduled banks decreased in the week under review. They fell by 8.89pc to Rs2,357.810bn against previous week`s Rs2,587.823 bn. Compared to last year`s corresponding figure of Rs1,929.951bn, current week`s figure is higher by 22.20pc.
Borrowings by commercial banks in the week at Rs2,268.798bn were lower by 8.64pc against previous week`s Rs2,483.459bn.
Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs89.012bn against the previous week`sfigure of Rs104.365bn.
Investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs7,670.889bn against preceding week`s figure of Rs7,993.596bn, lower by 4.04pc. Compared to last year`s corresponding figure of Rs7,401.781bn, current week`s figure is higher by 3.64pc.
Investments by all commercial banks stood at Rs7,604.440bn, lower by 3.89pc against preceding week`s figure of Rs7,912.083bn, whereas investment by all specialised banks stood at Rs.66.449bn against preceding week`s figure of Rs81.513bn.
