RAWALPINDI: PML-N has asked members of Rawalpindi and Chaklala cantonment boards and union council (UC) chairmen to ensure maximum number of people`s participation in May 13 meeting in Gujar Khan which would be addressed by Nawaz Sharif.

A meeting was held at Flashman`s Hotel with MNA Raja Javed Ikhlas in the chair.

The meeting was scheduled tobe presided over by PML-N Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation President Sardar Naseem but he was abroad.

The meeting was attended by MPA Raja Hanif Advocate, Malik Iftikhar, Chaudhry Riaz, Shaukat Bhatti, CCB Vice President Raja Irfan Imtiaz, RCB Vice Pre sident Malik Munir and all the members of cantonment boards.

PML-N MNA Raja Javed Ikhlas conveyed the message of the party leadership to the members.

A senior PML-N leader told Dawn that the party had told the local leaders that their performance would be monitored and a committee had been formed in this regard.

He said the PML-N Rawalpindi secretary general had been assigned to hold a meeting of all 40 union council chairmen of the city areas and ensure presence of people from their respective UCs.

He said the local leaders had been asked to shun their differences and work for the party.

`After this meeting, Nawaz Sharif will give a date for another meeting in Rawalpindi city as he will judge the performance of the local leaders in the meeting in Gujar Khan,` he said.

It may be mentioned here that former interior minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, had been leading Rawalpindi Division in the past and after he developed differences, the party wanted to pay special attention to the division especially Rawalpindi district and Taxila in particular.

When contacted, Chaklala Cantonment Board Vice President Raja Irfan Imtiaz told Dawn that the meeting was held to review the arrangements for the public meeting, and all members of Rawalpindi and Chaklala cantonment boards had been asked to participate in the public meeting with the maximum number of supporters.

Mr Imtiaz said all the members would start corner meetings and carry out door-to-door campaigns in the cantonment areas to create awareness among people about the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif`s stance on `respect for vote`.
