Three accused become approvers in mega corruption case

QUETTA: Three accused in a mega corruption scandal in Balochistan`s finance department have become approvers against the main accused in the case.

A spokesman for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Balochistan, said on Thursday that the three accused Administrator of Municipal Committee, Khaligabad, Saleem Shah; accountant of the Municipal Committee, Nadeem Iqbal; and executive engineer of the communications and works department, Kalatcircle, Tariq Nousherwani had been produced before a duty magistrate where they had accepted all corruption charges levelled against them.

`They have become approvers in the mega corruption against the main accused arrested by NAB after the recovery of Rs650 million from the house of former secretary of finance Mushtaq Ahmed Raisani,` the spokesman said, adding that after the recording of statements under section 164 before the magistrate, they had been released on bail.

During investigation, the approvers divulged details of embezzlement ofRs6 billion funds of the local government to NAB investigators and also disclosed the names of some other of ficials involved in looting and plundering the public money.

The investigation, the spokesman said, would be expanded and more arrests were expected over the next few days.

An accused in the same case, Asad Shah, had already been released last month by NAB after he became an approver.

His elder brother, Faisal Majeed Shah, who was a government contractor, is in NAB`s custody, along with Mr Raisani.
