T HE VIP culture that has plagued us over the years is one of the stumbling blocl(s in our path to progress as a nation.
Successive governments have made tall claims of eliminating this culture and adopting austerity measures, but these have never proved to be anything more than mere lip-service. The shenanigans of VIPs and so-called VIPs have continued to make the lives of the common man more miserable, and place unnecessary burden on the nationalexchequer.
One typical case in point is a so-called VIP whose house is located in Phase V of the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in Karachi. Oblivious to the inconvenience caused to area residents, the so-called VIP has arranged a blocl(ade on one side of the road that connects two major thoroughfares. On top of that, a heavy contingent of police is deputed outside the said house round the clocl( As a result of this blockade, persistent traffic jams at the busy intersection are witnessed during peak traffic hours, and commuters have to face hassle in driving there. The DHA Security and Vigilance Department, which is normally prompt in checkingviolations ofits rules by area residents, has also turned a blind eye towards this unauthorised activity. I suggest that those VIPs who feel insecure living here should considerrelocating abroad so that the common people do not have to face the brunt of their VIP protocols.
