Flight disruption remained zero from Nov 23 to 26: airport official

RAWALPINDI: Despite widespread civil unrest and external challenge, Islamabad International Airport (IIAP) managed 324 flights and facilitated 56,473 passengers with zero operational disruption from Nov 23 to Nov 26.
A senior official of the airport management said that Islamabad International Airport (IIAP) faced considerable challenges due to widespread civil unrest and road closures in the twin cities during the period.
Despite these extraordinary circumstances, the airport demonstrated remarkable resilience, ensuring uninterrupte d operations through meticulous planning, seamless coordination, and the dedication of its staff, he said.
To counter road closures and maintain staff presence, alternative access routes were promptly identified in coordination with the district administration and communicated to the passengers.
This ensured that criticalpersonnelcould reach the airport without delays, safeguarding operational efficiency throughout the period, said the senior official.
Close collaborationwith airlines,led by the Chairman of the Airline Operators Committee (AOC), facilitated real-time updates to passengers regarding ticket changes and travel rescheduling.
Despite the unrest, flight schedules were maintained with only a slight dip in passenger load on Nov 24, the official said, adding thatthe proactive approach ensured passengers were supported and reassured during uncertain times.
During the unrest, dedicated vehicles were deployed in three shifts to transport essential staff, including Air Traffic Control (ATC) personnel, ensuring round-theclock coverage. These measures enabled teams to maintain safe and efficient management of airspace and airport operations without interruption.
The senior official said that despite external challenges, IIAP successfully managed 324 flights during the unrest period and facilitated travel for 56,473 passengers with zero operational disruptions.
Cleanliness of the terminal building was also maintained due to close coordination with the management of janitorial and glass cleaning company.
The airport`s ability to navigate this challenging period underscores the effectiveness of its contingency plans and the commitment of its workforce. The collaborative effort by airport management, airlines, and staff exemplifies IIAP`s resilience and dedication to providing uninterrupted service under adverse conditions, the senior official said.

Meanwhile: Pakistan International Airlines has announced a10 percent discountfor passengers traveling from Canada to Pakistan to celebrate the arrival of the new year 2025.
Spokesman for PIA said ticket bookings can be made until Dec 10 and the discounted tickets will be valid for travel from Canada to Pakistan between Jan 11 to March 20,2025. He said that the PIA management has described this as a new year`s gift for the Pakistani community residing in Canada.
