KARACHI: The decomposed body of a five-year-old child, who had gone missing on Dec 15, 2023, was found in a drain in Korangi`s on Friday, police said.

His family said that the minor boy, Ali Muhammad, was kidnapped and murdered.

Police said that the body was recoveredfrom a sewerage line in Mehran Town near his home. The corpse was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.

Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) police SHO Ubaidullah Khan said that the police had registered a case regarding boy`s disappearance.

He said that the police were waiting for doctors` findings to initiate legal proceedings.

Zahoor Ahmed, an elder brother of the victim, told the media that Ali had gone to meet his maternal grandmother who lived in the same neighbourhood on Dec 15 but he did not return.Theylaunched asearch,butcouldnot find him.

Eight days later, they succeeded in lodging a kidnapping case at the KIA police station, but the police did not take it `seriously`, thebrother alleged.

He said on Friday they found the body after they removed the cover of a manhole.

`We believe Ali Mohammed was kidnapped and killed and his body was dumped in the sewerage line,` said Zahoor, demanding justice from the authorities.

The victim was the youngest among six siblings.

Man injured by robbers A 35-year-old man was wounded by robbers on the main Korangi Industrial Area road on Friday.

Police said Ghulam Raza was shot and wounded when he put up resistance to an armed robber bid near a garment factory.

He was shifted to the JPMC for treatment.
