Attack on checkpost leaves two dead

QUETTA: Two personnel of the Balochistan Constabulary were killed and five others injured in an attack on their checkpost in Mastung district on Tuesday.

The United Baloch Army (UBA) claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to police, gunmen hiding in a nearby mountain ambushed the post in Isplanji area on the main National Highway.

Officials said the attack was so sudden that it did not allow the personnelto retaliate.

Soon after the attack, personnel of other law-enforcement agencies rushed to the site and took the bodies and the injured to the Civil Hospital.

The dead personnel were iden-tified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohim Khan Zehri and Constable Khalil Ahmed.

`They received multiple bullet wounds that caused their instant death,` hospital sources said.

The injured included Head Constable Abdul Ghani Mengal and constables Amirul Mulk, Mohammad Shahi, Abdul Hameed Kiyzai and Mehrab Khan Phalal.

The condition of two of the constables is stated to be critical.

Tall(ing to reporters on phone from an unspecified place, a spokesman for the UBA claimed that over 15 Balochistan Constabulary personnel were killed in the attack.

`Our men also took away official weapons,` he said.

According to sources, security forces launched a searchfor the attackers, but no arrest was made till late night.
