Turkiye to privatise bridges, highways for 30 years

ISTANBUL: Turkiye plans a multi-billion-dollar privatisation programme covering staterun highways and bridges for 30-year operating contracts, according to a presidential decision published in the official gazette on Saturday.

The programme includes two Bosphorus Strait bridges in Istanbul that operate at full capacity, with some 430,000 vehicles crossing them daily in 2024.

Assets can be privatised as a single package or inseparate groups, with the process due to be completed by the end of 2031.

Privatisation methods include transfer of operating rights, leasing and revenue-sharing arrangements.

The Nigde-Pozanti highway, Gaziantep ring road and Bursa ring road are included in the privatisation portfolio.

In April, a government team visited Portugal to meet potential investors for the programme, sources told Reuters.-Reuters
