England U-19 take charge despite Hasnain’s fifty

ARUNDEL (England): Hasnain Abbas Dar’s half-century enabled Pakistan U-19 to post 305 before England U-19 reached 121-1 in their second innings at the close of penultimate day of their Youth Test at the Arundel Castle Cricket Club Ground in Arundel on Friday.

England, who had posted 333 in their first innings, ended the day with an overall lead of 149 runs with nine second-innings wickets in hand after Pakistan totalled 305 all out in their first innings.

Pakistan resumed their first innings on Friday at the overnight score of 257-6 with Hasnain (26) and Mohammad Sayyam (11) at the crease.

The pair continued to frustrate the England bowlers in the morning session before Sayyam departed for 21. His patient knock included a boundary as he and Hasnain took Pakistan’s seventh-wicket partnership to 54 runs.

Right-handed Hasnain remained firm at the other end and brought up a well-deserved halfcentury, scoring 57 off 166 balls with the help of five fours during his 187-minute stay at the crease.

England’s Manny Lumsden took five wickets for 52 runs while captain Ralphie Albert claimed 3-58.

Pakistan made an early breakthrough when England began their second innings as pacer Abdul Subhan removed first-innings centurion Bertie Michael for seven with the total on 14.

Leo Selvey-Clinton and Isaac Mohammed then stitched an unbroken 107-run stand for the second wicket. Selvey-Clinton was unbeaten on 68 while Mohammed ended the day on 46 not out.
