ABBOTTABAD: The confrontation between lawyers and the district administration has intensified as the District Bar Association (DBA) Abbottabad has demanded transfer of an assistant commissioner.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, president of the association Imran Younis Khan Tanoli and secretary Asad Jadoon, along with members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council and other officebearers, said that lawyers would not compromise over what they described as unlawful conduct of the assistant commissioner.
Thebarannouncedthat a lawyers’ convention for the entire Hazara region would be held next week as part of the protest. It said the matter would be pursuedthroughlegaland constitutional forums including approaching the Sessions Court under Section 22-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The lawyers alleged that the dispute began over the construction of a water filtration plant at the district courts under a project initiated by the Peshawar High Court.
They claimed that the assistant commissioner intervened in the project on September 1, resulting in suspending the work.
The lawyers alleged that a court employee was assaulted and lawyers were threatened when they reached the site, while revenue officials and other individuals later allegedly pelted stones at a lawyers’ procession, injuring the bar’s secretary and some other lawyers.
The bar claimed that CCTV footage, photographs and police complaints were available in support of its allegations.
It has demanded legal action against the assistant commissioner and his immediate transfer from Abbottabad.
