LAHORE: The Jamaat-i-Islami on Monday formally gave a go-ahead to support the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf in the Oct 11 by-election as well as seat adjustment.

The JI agreed that it would hold public meetings and rallies along with the PTl for its candidates, Abdul Aleem Khan and Shoaib Siddiqui.

PTI`s Punjab organiser Chaudhry Sarwar, opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Abdul Aleem Khan and others visited Mansoora and met JI`s Lahore emir Mian Maqsood Ahmad and former MPA Ehsanullah Waqas.

They discussed the PTI-JI seat adjustment in the local body elections as well as the by-election.

Later, at a joint press conference, Mr Sarwar thanked the JI leaders for supporting PTl candidates in NA-122 and PP-147 and added that the PTl would support JI candidates in local body elections.

However, he did not disclose that how many union councils would be given to the JI along with PTl support in local government elections.

He said the NA-122 election was not among candidates but between the PTl and the PML-N to explain their stances whether the 2013 general elections were rigged or not.

JI`s Lahore emir Mian Maqsood said the Jamaat had some apprehensions about the seat adjustment with the PTl in the LG elections but now adjustment had been made at various union councils. He said the JI was now focusing more on LG elections.

Meanwhile, 14 religious parties, including the Sunni Ittehad, announced their support for PTl candidates Abdul Aleem Khan and Shoaib Siddiqui in the by-election.
