KARACHI: The annual Sindh Snooker Cup commenced here at the Legend Snooker Club, as 29 firstround matches were decided on Thursday.
Organised by the Sindh Billiards & Snooker Association, the event has drawn a field of 151 players from all across the province.
The opening day saw a marathon schedule spread across five sessions, delivering a mix of dominant sweeps and nail-biting finishes.
Several cueists made quick work of their opponents, securing flawless 3-0 victories to cruise into the next round. Shahzad Naseem, Raheel Trump, Osama Abid, Adnan, Mohammad Nabeel Akram and Mohammad Yousuf all advanced without dropping a single frame.
While many matches were one-sided, there were several fixtures that went the distance.
Jamal and Naeem battled hard in the morning session, with Naeem eventually edging out a 3-2 victory. Similar thrilling 3-2 finishes were seen later in the day, as Sohaib Maqsood outlasted Wajahatullah Khan, Waqas Behlam defeated Mohammad Abrar and Hamza Bhatti closed out the day’s action by narrowly defeating Naimul Naseer. The tournament also saw Ubaid, Arsalan Tiger, and Wajahat Kanchi advance via walkovers.
Beyond the provincial title, the top eight players from this tournament will secure qualification for the 51st National Snooker Championship 2027, set to be held in Karachi. The event will conclude on Nov 14.
