Charsadda girls school building declared unsafe

CHARSADDA: The education authorities here have ordered the immediate closure and sealing of 14 classrooms, an office, a hall and a science laboratory at Government Girls Community Model High School in Charsadda after a technical inspection declared the building unsafe.

According to an official memorandum issued by the district education officer (women) here the other day, the decision was taken following a request from the school principal seeking permission to demolish the structure.

The education department had sought a technical assessment from the executive engineer of the communication and works department, Charsadda, about the condition of the building.

In its report submitted on Monday, the C&W department declared the structure unsafeand warned that its continued use could pose a serious threat to human lives.

The technical report recommended that the building be vacated and educational activities shifted to a safe location to prevent any untoward incident and possible loss of life.

The report said that the building should not be used for educational or official purposes until necessary repairs were carried out or the existing structure was demolished and reconstructed with the approval of the competent authority.

In view of the technical findings, the district education officer directed the school principal to lock and seal all 14 classrooms, the office, hall and science laboratory.

The principal was instructed to ensure that students, teachers and other staff members were prohibited from entering or occupying the affected portions of the building.
