JI urges youth to reject violence

QUETTA: Jamaat-i-Islami’s Balochistan chapter chief Maulana Hidayatur Rehman on Sunday urged young people to reject violence and pursue education, modern technology and democratic means to seek justice, stressing that social change must come through peaceful struggle.

He was speaking at a certificate distribution ceremony for the Al Khidmat Foundation’s Bano Qabil programme. He called on Baloch, Pashtun and minority groups to unite for regional development, prosperity and peace. ‘Kalashnikovs are not our weapons; pen and books are,’ Mr Rehman said.

Mr Rehman challenged nationalist, religious and local political parties to match his party’s efforts in providing vocational skills to youth, supporting orphans and establishing successful hospitals and educational institutions.

He said thousands of students across Balochistan currently receive vocational training through the Bano Qabil programme, though it was the state’s duty in the first place to provide citizens with basic education, healthcare and employment.-Staff Correspondent
