Railway worker killed as goods train derails

HYDERABAD: A railway employee was killed when a goods train derailed at the Kotri station on Sunday.

Eleven of the 40 bogies of the train, bound for Yousufwala, Punjab, jumped off the tracks at about 4pm.

A railway employee, Rajesh, was killed in the incident, which happened as soon as the coal-laden train left the Kotri yard, officials said.

The Pakistan Railways chief controller’s office at Karachi said that the train had left for Punjab after its bogies were put on the track.

An official at the office told Dawn over phone in the evening that one sanitary worker was killed in the incident. He said that a relief train was on its way to the Kotri station to clear the tracks. He said the rail traffic would keep plying on the ‘down’ tracks until the ‘up’ tracks were rehabilitated.
