Road safety

2026-06-08
ROADS across Karachi have become rather unsafe. In a recent tragic collision involving a trucl( and motorcycles, five young lives were lost. The main causes behind these accidents are reckless driving, poor road infrastructure andinadequate enforcement of traffic regulations. Busy roads that are vital for commuters and students, often experience chaotic traffic conditions, especially during peal( hours, putting vulnerable road users at signiñcant risk.

Beyond the immediate physical harm, these accidents have profound sociological effects. Families suffer emotional trauma and financial hardship, while the community`s overall sense of safety is undermined. Vulnerable groups, such as students and low-income workers who rely heavily on motorcycles and public transport, are disproportionately affected. The lacl( ofsafe pedestrian crossings and proper streetlightingfurtherrestricts their mobility and access to essential services.

Measures lil(e speed bumps, better signage and improved lighting are needed to reduce the risl( of accidents. Addressing the issue is essential for not only preventingfurtherloss oflife, butalsofor fostering a safer, more inclusive society.
