Police begin probe into boy`s torture

SWABI: A three-member committee tasked with probing torture of a teenaged boy by the police officials has starteditsjob, but it is not clear when the investigation will complete and be submitted to the IGP.

`The committee will conduct impartial investigation,` says a statement issued here on Monday.

Swabi DSP Azhar Shah, who heads the committee, met the father of the victim boy and assured him of departmental action against the two accused police personnel after conclusion of theinquiry.

On the directive of police chief Salahuddin Khan, SHO YarHussainHajiMohammad and police post in-charge Jaganath Jihad Khan had been suspended. The IGP had ordered the inquiry report should be submitted to him within 24 hours.

When contacted, DPO Mohammad Sohaib Ashraf told Dawn the investigation committee would submit its report as soon as possible.

DSP Shah said he had completed his task and now departmental inquiry had been commenced which would be complete soon. Correspondent
