Robbers loot Rs25m from Korangi trader

KARACHI: Over half a dozen robbers travelling in a car and on motorcycles intercepted a trader’s car in Korangi on Monday and took away Rs25 million, police said.

Korangi SSP Fida Husain Janwari said that as per routine, Qurban Ali, the owner of Qurban Traders, a departmental store in Korangi-2, had sent his driver along with a private security guard in a car to deposit Rs25m in a private bank. The trader’s son, Nabeel, was also travelling along in another car.

When they reached near Vita Chowrangi, four suspects travelling in a Toyota Corolla and three suspects riding on three motorcycles intercepted the car carrying the money.

They snatched the pistol from the security guard and took away all the cash.

The senior officer said it appeared to be an ‘inside job’ and the police have detained some employees of the general store for interrogation. He said the security guard also had a past criminal record. He hoped that the case would be ‘solved’ soon.
