Replies sought on plea against JI sit-in

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday sought replies from the Punjab inspector general of police (IGP) and Lahore deputy commissioner on a petition challenging the Jamaat-e-Islami protest and sit-in on The Mall.

Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad heard a petition filed by one Naseem Akhtar, who contended that the Jamaat-e-Islami sit-in on The Mall was causing severe difficulties for commuters and area residents.

During the hearing, the court observed that the sit-in on The Mall was creating considerable problems for the public, as people have to spend a significant amount of time to reach their destinations.

After hearing initial arguments, the court issued notices to the Punjab IGP and Lahore DC and directed them to submit detailed reports at the next hearing.

Punjab Additional Advocate General Chaudhry Tanveer Akhtar appeared before the court on behalf of the provincial government. APP
