Despite 5pc decline in violence, KP accounts for 58pc of fatalities

ISLAMABAD: A total of 132 f atalities from violence were recorded during the third quarter of 2020 with 162 people being injured.

In its third quarter security report issued on Wednesday, Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) claimed that nearly 58pc of the total fatalities were recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), followed by Balochistan 23pc, Sindh 19pc, Gilgit Baltistan 7pc, Punjab 6pc and Islamabad Capital Territory 1pc.

While Punjab and Islamabad appeared to be the least affected by violence, KP, and Balochistan were the worst hit regions of the country, the report says.

The report is authored by Mohammad Nafees, senior research fellow for CRSS. Though the violence was dropped by 5pc, the number of injured was higher this quarter compared to the previous one (162 in Q3 versus 46 in Q2, an increase of over 350pc).

North Waziristan and Karachi remained at the top of the list of districts in terms of f atalities from violence.

South Waziristan, Killa Abdullah, Nowshera, Rajanpur, and Awaran experienced a sudden uptick in fatalities from violence. All provincial capital cities, except for Lahore, remained relatively peaceful for both quarters in a row.
