Two women, boy among six electrocuted to death

THATTA: Six people, including two women, were electrocuted to death and about a dozen others suffered electrical shock when the tractor-driven trolley they were riding entangled with a live power line near a village in this district on Tuesday.

The surviving victims, transported to the Thatta Civil Hospital by private vehicles, told local reporters that the live wires were hanging unusually low which led to the incident.

All the dead and injured belonged to the Mirbahar community. The deceased were identified as Allah Dino, his young son Aini, Mukhtiar, Sikandar, Fareeda and Shabbiran.

The incident took place near Pir Jo Goth (not the village with same name situated in Khairpur district).

A number of locals gathered at the accident site and tried hard to call out ambulances but in vain as no such facility was available at nearby healthcare facilities. Many of them then volunteered to transport the victims to the civil hospital by their own vehicles.

According to them, the trolley was carrying a pile of paddy and straw.

The victims, farmers and their family members, were returning home after completing the day’s work in field when they met with the accident.

District Council Chairman Abdul Hameed Panhwar visited the injured victims at the hospital and directed the administration to ensure their best possible treatment.

He also condoled the death of six persons with their heirs and community and assured them of all possible assistance.

Provincial Minister for Prisons Haji Ali Hassan Zardari has sought a detailed report on the incident from the Thatta deputy commissioner, and ordered every possible support for the affected families.

Former Senator Sassui Palijo also expressed her deep grief over the loss of the six lives and called for proper medical treatment of the injured.
