ANP criticises PTI’s ‘double standard’

PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Mian Iftikhar Hussain has questioned the Pakistan Tehreeki-Insaf’s (PTI) opposition to the division of Sindh, saying the party was displaying ‘political hypocrisy’ by supporting resolutions seeking the division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Mr Hussain said the PTI got resolutions passed in the provincial assembly calling for the divisionof Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while its chief minister was in Karachi announcing that he would stand with the people of Sindh against any attempt to divide the province.

‘How can those who have passed resolutions for dividing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa become defenders of the unity of Sindh?’ he asked.

Mr Hussain said that if the division of Sindh was unacceptable, the PTI should explain ‘at whose behest and for what purpose’ resolu-tions seeking the division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been passed.

He accused the PTI of trying to mislead both the people of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying the party’s ‘double standards’ had now been exposed.

The ANP leader also criticised the provincial government over the security and governance situation inKhyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said people in Tirah have been displaced from their homes for the past eight months and were living in camps.

He said the province continued to face unrest from Khyber and Waziristan to Bajaur and Dera Ismail Khan, while educational institutions were struggling to secure funds for the salaries of teachers and other employees.

Hospitals, he alleged, were also facing shortages of beds and medicines.

Mr Hussain said that if the chief minister could not provide security, employment and basic facilities to the people of his own province, his statements and claims in Sindh amounted to nothing more than ‘political drama’.

He said the unity, resources and national identity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could not be made a subject of political bargaining. Bureau Report
