CHAKWAL: A student in Chakwal who scored 1,004 marks in her secondary school certificate was given a house by the Punjab government on Thursday.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif met Nargis Gull at his office in Lahore on Aug 10, and had promised her a free home and education. Ms Gull secured high marks while living in a small hut in utter poverty.

She is now pursuing intermediate medical science at the District Public School Chakwal, and was also awarded a laptop computer and Rs500,000.

Since the chief minister`s promise, the district government was looking for a suitable house for Ms Gull and her family.

A property dealer, Qazi Amir Zulfiqar, found a home for the family in Jaf farabad, which was bought for Rs2.5 million. The property dealer did not take any commission.

On Thursday, MNA Iffat Liaquat and District Coordination Officer Mehmood Javed Bhatti handed the keys to the house over to Ms Gull and congratulatedher.

The student later told Dawn: `I am grateful to the chief minister and all the other people who supported me. Now my dream of becoming a doctor will be fulfilled easily.
