NSA happy with improved security situation

ISLAMABAD: National Security Adviser retired Lt Gen Nasser Khan Janjua on Thursday expressed satisfaction over improvement in the security situation in the country as a result of implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) to curb terrorism.

He was speaking at the third meeting of the Implementation Committee of the NAP.

Officials of the federal and provincial governments, the director general of military operations and representatives of the Intelligence Bureau, the Inter Services Intelligence andtheMilitaryIntelligenceattended the meeting.

The officials reviewed the steps being taken in connection with the NAP in their provinces and discussed problems faced by them.

In his welcome address, Gen Janjua stressed the need for speeding up implementation of the NAP to achieve a lasting peace.

He told the participants about consultations held so far to bring madressahs into national mainstream and the decisions of the federal cabinet about repatriation of Afghan refugees.

He also talked about priorities of the government regarding banned organisations and gave a briefing on the issue.

About Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) reforms, the NSA explained decisions of the government and said it wanted to enhance harmony among stakeholderson the reforms.

He said it was a government priority to speed up development work in Fata and improve lives of its people.

In his concluding remarks, the adviser praised the performance of law enforcement institutions and intelligence agencies.

The participants reviewed implementation of decisions taken in the last meeting and discussed reforms in criminal justice system.

It was felt during the seven-hour-long meeting that clear results of the NAP could be seen because all provinces had started working in harmony and were cooperating with the federal government.

They stressed the need for different organs of the state to come up to the expectations of people.
