LAHORE: Awami National Party (ANP) Central President Senator Aimal Wali Khan on Wednesday accepted the invite extended by Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman to join his party’s sit-ins against the petroleum levy.
The ANP leader accepted the invitation after the JI emir made a telephonic contact with him to discuss the overall political situation in the country, rising inflation, and the JI agitation against the petroleum levy.
As per a JI press release, during the interaction, Rehman formally invited the ANP leadership to join the JI’s nationwide protest sit-ins. Senator Aimal Wali Khan accepted the invite, it claims.
It says that extolling the JI efforts, Senator Aimal stated that inflation and the petroleum levy are not issues confined to a single political entity, but rather a collective ordeal facing the entire nation.
He remarked that the public is already suffering from a severe economic crisis, while current government policies are further compounding their grievances. He affirmed that the ANP will play an active role in every struggle aimed at safeguarding the economic rights of the masses, adding that it is the need of the hour for all democratic and political forces to unite and raise a joint voice against economic hardship and unequal policies.
