PESHAWAR: The police have arrested four persons for allegedly gang raping two women at gunpoint within the jurisdiction of Rahman Baba policestation on the outskirts of the provincial capital, a senior official said on Wednesday.
Peshawar’s SSP Operations Farhan Khan told media persons that four accused persons barged into a house at around 2am on Sunday. He said that thehouse owner, along with his 11-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son, was tied up with a rope inside a room, and his two wives, one22-year-old and another 27-year-old, were gang raped.
‘They [the women] cried and kept begging, but the four accused had rather gone inside the house purposely-to gang rape the women,’ Mr Khan said, adding that the man was a daily wager, and the alleged rapists took advantage of his situation.
The SSP also said that the accused allegedly ‘touched’ the 11-year-old girl too, but she was later tied with a ropeinside the same room where her father and brother had been tied up.
He said the house owner went to the police station at around 4am and reported the case.
The SSP said that the incident wasthe first of its kind and nobody could even think about a gang rape, and that too, at gunpoint in Pashtun society. He, however, said it was encouraging that the case was reported, suggesting people trusted the police.
He said four different teams formed to probe the case had arrested all the accused persons. He said two cell phones, which the accused persons took from the two women, along with the arms used in the offence, had also been recovered.
‘This is something really encouraging that the man reported the case, and we will make sure justice is served,’ he said.
SSP Investigations Dr Mohammad Sami told media persons that only female police officers remained in touch with the victims so that they could speak openly.
He said that under the law, the department could not release the identities of the victims and the accused persons.
