`Political will, citizens` role can help eradicate corruption`

SWABI: Strong political will and effective role of citizens and judiciary could help root out the menace of corruption from the society.

This was stated by National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Director General Shazad Saleem, while speaking at a function in connection with the `anti-corruption week` at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology here the other day.

The workshop organised by the institute`s CharacterBuilding Society was attended among others by Dr Inam, a pioneer of the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences(PIEAS),Islamabad.

Mr Saleem maintained that if the political leadership, masses and judiciary worked in cohesion, no one was able to embezzle the public money.

He said NAB had so far recovered Rs265 billion from the corrupt elements.

`Everyone should play his due role to achieve the objective of having a corruptionfree society,` he stressed.

The NAB official said there was need to make people aware of the cancer of corruption.

PTI ASSAILED: Leaders of the seven-party ruling alliance in Swabi on Wednesday warned PTI parllamentarians and local leaders to stop meddling into the affairs of public sector institutions in the district.

Speaking at a meeting chaired by district nazim Ameer Rehman, leaders of Swabi Democratic Alliance (SDA), said they would devise a line of action to thwart PTI`s interference in affairs of the public institutions.

They said since the SDA formed government in Swabi district, the PTI had turned hostiletoit,especiallyafterthe merger of Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan with it.
