Chhotu gang ringleader acquitted of cop’s murder

MULTAN: An anti-terrorism court (ATC-II) on Tuesday acquitted the ringleader of Chhotu gang, Ghulam Rasool alias Chhotu, and six others of the charge in a case of attacking a police party and killing a constable.

The gangsters are serving jail terms after being convicted in various cases. They had been sentenced to death on 18 counts and life imprisonment on charges of murder and possession of explosive material. They had filed petitions against the sentences with the Lahore High Court Multan Bench.

The ATC-II acquitted Ghulam Rasool alias Chhotu, Ghulam Rasool alias Kalu, Sajawal, Piara, Sher Khan, Mujeebur Rehman and Nauman in the case lodged against them on July 7, 2013 with Shahwali police station for killing a police constable Ghulam Abbas in an attack on a police party.

Two other alleged gang members – Pehlwan and Abdul Shakoor – were killed in a crossfire.

Advocate Mushtaq Hussain Manjotha was the counsel for the accused party. — Staff Correspondent
