Another organ trade suspect remanded

2017-05-11
LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Wednesday remanded another suspect of illegal organ transplant scandal into three-day custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

The FIA produced Abdul Majeed before the magistrate and stated that the suspect had been arrested on the pointation of Dr Fawad Mumtaz, one of the prime suspects of the scandal.

The investigating officer told the court that Majeed was an agent of Dr Mumtaz and hunting foreign clients for organ transplantation was his main responsibility. The IO said the suspect during initial interrogation disclosed that a Dubai-based client, Muhammad Rashid, had lost his life during a kidney transplant surgery carried out by Dr Mumtaz.

The officer asked the court to grant physical remand of the suspect for further investigation in the case. The magistrate allowed the request and granted three-day remand of the suspect.
