LARKANA: Doctors at the Government Hospital, Naudero, including the medical superintendent, went on strike on Thursday after a colleague was abused and attacked while on duty.
Local journalists said a citizen named Rasool Bakhsh Ansari allegedly assaulted Dr Akhtar Dayo, creating chaos inside the hospital. Hospital staff intervened and rescued the doctor from further violence. The hospital management called the police, who detained the suspect at Naudero police station.
Speaking on the incident, the affected doctor, Dr Akhtar Dayo, broke down while recounting the assault. He said he had been writing a prescription for someone injured in an accident when Rasool Bakhsh Ansari arrived, without a patient, and asked him to write a slip for a sugar test.
When Dr Dayo asked where the patient was, he was told the patient was waiting near the laboratory. Ansari then returned, saying the lab required another slip for the test, and when the doctor again asked where the patient was, Ansari allegedly abused and assaulted him.
Hospital MS Dr Ghazanfar said the strike, observed throughout the hospital except in the emergency ward, had resulted in a large number of patients returning without treatment.
