2016-10-11
MULTAN: Racers aspiring to join the 12th Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally scheduled for February 2017 may need to cover a much longer route than the previous one, involving three districts and the one-day race would be extended to two days.

It was a 205km long race last year, however, the organisers have recently proposed that the next rally should have a 450km long route, spreadingover across Bahawalpur, RY Khan and Bahawalnagar, Tourism Development Corporation Punjab officials said.

The proposal was finalised in a meeting held under the aegis of Bahawalpur district administration some days back and it was attended by officials of the TDCP, district administration, Houbara Foundation, and the Cholistan Development Authority.

The pattern of the race wouldremain the same as it would begin from historical Derawar Fort and conclude at the same point.

The racers would have to pass through the areas, including Islamgarh Fort, Khairgarh Fort, Nawan Fort, Deengarh Fort and Maujgarh Fort, before reaching the starting point, the officials said.

The proceedings of the meeting had been sent to high-ups at Lahore for final approval.-APP
