GUJRAT: Two men, including a former councillor, were gunned down by some unidentified armed men at Sheikhupur village in Kakrali police precincts on Sunday.
As per the police, a former councillor, Raja Asif(62), of Sheikhupur Sariya village and his friend Malik Zahid (45) of Bhand Garan village were returning after attending a funeral on a motorbike, when five unidentified armed men opened fire on them, leaving both dead on spot.
The assailants fled the scene.
On being called,Rescue 1122 and police teams reached the spot.
The bodies were shifted to the hospital for autopsy, while a team of Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) collected the evidence from the crime scene.
A spokesman for Gujrat police says the initial investigation showed that an old enmity may be thecause of the double murder. Further investigation was underway.
Gujrat DPO Dr Mustanser Atta Bajwa took notice of the incident and directed the police to trace and arrest the killers.
He said a case was being lodged with Kakrali police against unidentified killers.
