Early morning rain turns Sunday pleasant

LAHORE: Various areas of the city received rain on Sunday morning with Lakshmi Chowk receiving the maximum rainfall at 67mm.

The rain was also followed by a cool breeze that turned the weather pleasant. However, the low-lying areas were submerged by rainwater.

More than 90 Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) feeders tripped and severely affected the electricity transmission system after the rain.

Many areas were left without electricity that caused severe inconvenience for residents.

According to Wasa Lahore, the Jail Road received 17.5mm rain, airport 54mm, Gulberg 21mm, Lakshmi Chowk 67mm, Upper Mall 52mm, Mughalpura 48mm, Chowk Nakhuda 58mm, Paniwala Talab 57mm, Farrukhabad 58mm, Gulshan-i-Ravi 66mm, Iqbal Town 46mm, Samanabad 21mm, Johar Town 15mm and Mozang Chungi 40mm.Wasa Managing Director Ghufran Ahmed visited the Circular Road, Fleming Road, McLeod Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Zahoor Elahi Road, Lakshmi Chowk, GPO Chowk and Supreme Court Chowk to monitor the situation. He instructed the officials to ensure drainage of rainwater in all primary, secondary and tertiary roads. Director Hamid Lal gave a detailed briefing on the drainage operations.

Wasa cleared most areas including Shah Jamal, GPO, Ali Block, Rasool Park, Takka Chowk, Allah Hu Chowk, Ek Moria Pul, Lytton Road, Chouburji Chowk and Cooper Road.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued an alert in view of the rain in various districts of Punjab, including Lahore.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia issued instructions to the deputy commissioners across the province to remain alert to deal with any emergency situation.
