HYDERABAD: The Qaumi Awami Tehreek (QAT) has decided to hold ‘Mohabbat-iSindh’ rallies and public gatherings, with the first event to be held inSangharonSept20.
The party has urged the federal government to hold a debate in parliament on why Sindh is being denied its share of resources, instead of debating the ‘integrity of Sindh’.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s standing committee, held under the chairmanship of its president Ayaz Latif Palijo. The committee also decided to hold rallies in Badin on Sept 26 and in Thatta on Oct 4.
Mr Palijo told the meeting that, instead of initiating a debate on the unity of Sindh, the federal government should hold a debate in the National Assembly and the Senate on why Sindh was not getting its share of water, and why the motorway was not being built.
He said the federal government should examine why Sindh had been neglected in development projects, and why industrial zones were not being established in theprovince.Itshouldalso discuss,he said, why there was corruption in Sindh, and why the province had been overlooked for federal jobs.
The QAT chief said Pakistan was already facing a political and economic crisis, and that instead of confrontation, there should be talk of unity. He added that the separation of Karachi from Sindh, and the creation of new provinces or administrative units, were unacceptable to the people of Sindh.
He said that Karachi was the heart of Sindh and crown of 80m people of Sindh who would not allow Sindh to be broken in the name of administrative units.
Mr Palijo said every attempt to alter Sindh’s geographical boundaries and devour its resources was an attack on Sindh, which the people would defeat through peaceful, democratic and constitutional struggle. He said the sea, rivers, mountains, islands, islets, water, Karoonjhar Hills, gas, coal, petroleum, lakes, ponds and the desert all belonged to Sindh.
He said that whether it was the sea and coastal belt, the river, agricultural land or mineral wealth, the federation should accept the national, historical and constitutional rights of the people ofSindh overthese resources.
