CM asks militants to stop attacks in quake-hit areas

QUETTA, Oct 11: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has once again urged militant groups to stop attacks on teams engaged in relief work in the quakeaffected areas of the province.
Talking to notables of Awaran district here on Friday, the chief minister said that use of force had never been a solution to any problem.
`Even though militants are continuously attacking members of relief teams, the government has decided to continue relief operation in affected areas,` he said.
Commander of SouthernCommand Lt Gen Nasir Khan Janjua and Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Mohammad were present on the occasion.
Expressing concern over attacks on relief teams, the chief minister said that militants did not respond positively to the government`s repeated appeals for seeking their cooperation in affected areas of Awaran and Kech districts.
He said sabotaging relief work and attacking those who were helping needy people were against the traditions of Baloch people.
The chief minister said hehad a mandate to hold talks with angry Baloch nationalists and said an all-party conference would be called to discuss the issues of Balochistan.
He expressed sympathy with earthquake-hit people and said his government`s endeavours would continue till their complete rehabilitation.
Mr Baloch said new buildings for schools and hospitals and model houses would be built in affected areas.
He said a strict vigilance system had been set up to ensure transparency in distribution of relief goods.
