SUKKUR: Over 100 suspects were picked up in a combing up operation carrie d out by paramilitary troops and police in parts of Jacobabad district on Friday.
The operation is part of a nationwide anti-terror campaign launched a couple of days back by all security agencies under the command of the army, according to police officials.
Jacobabad SSP Sajid Hussain Khokhar told the media in the evening that a total of 104 suspects were picked up for interrogation during a number of joint raids conducted in various areas of Jacobabad district. Two double-barrel guns and two repeaters were seized from some suspects, he added.
He said that the joint teams carried out a search operation in Jacobabad city and Thull town on a tip-off about presence of criminals in certain areas. He said more than 50 suspects were rounded up in the two areas alone after arms and ammunition were seized from some suspects.
Apart from houses, suspected hideouts, ofhces of religious and social organisations as well as vice dens, three seminaries were also raided during the operation.
It was gathered that eight suspects were taken into custody in the raids on Madressah Umar Farooq, being managed by the proscribed Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, Madressah Arabia and Madressah Usmania, all situated in Pathan Goth, Jacobabad city.
The suspects were taken to some unknown place for interrogation.
According to SSP Khokhar, other suspects including proclaimed offenders and alleged criminals nominated in various cases.
