GB court cancels DIG`s protective bail

GILGIT: The GilgitBaltistan Supreme Appellate Court Chief Justice Rana Shamim Arshad on Saturday cancelled the protective bail of DIG crime branch Syed Junaid Arshad in a case of alleged harassment of the former wife of the accused, and directed the FIA to proceed against the police officer under the law.
In his verdict, the judge observed that the protective bail granted to the police officer by the GB Chief Court was extraordinary relief, which ignored the principles of law. He reprimanded FIA`s investigation officer of the case, Ashar Haroon, and FIA GB`s assistant director law, Syed Dildar Hussain, for failing to act promptly when the aggrieved woman got registered an FIR with the agency in June, as a result, the accused police officer obtained a protective bail from the chief court.
On Aug 11, the DIG`s former wife through her counsel Shafgat Abbasi had submitted an application with the Supreme Appellate Court, seeking cancellation of the interim bail granted to him by the Chief Court.
On July 5, GB Chief Court Judge Justice Haq Nawaz had granted the police officer a 40-day protective bail.
The woman got registered an FIR with the FIA`s cybercrime wing on June 8, alleging that her former husband, who is a resident of Islamabad, with the help of his friend, Danish Ghani, blacl(mailed her by uploading her objectionable pictures on social media.-Correspondent
