Lady health worker, cop hurt in attacks

PESHAWAR: Unidentified gunmen shot and injured a lady health worker and a policeman in separate attacks here on Saturday.

The LHW identified as Tahira Naaz was attacked at Shero Jangi area on the Charsadda Road.

An official of Khazana police station referring to the statement of the LHW said that as she came out from her village to the main road two men riding a motorbike opened fire with pistols on her and then escaped.

She said that the attackers were unknown.

She was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital where her condition was stated to be stable.

The female said that she had no enmity with anyone. However, police claimed that her family had a dispute over her engagement with two different families in the area.

`Our investigators are collecting evidence and soon the real story will be made public, the official said. He said no one had been arrested so far regarding the case. However, he said FIR had been registered against the unknown persons.

Meanwhile, a police constable identified as llyas Khan was injured when unidentified attackers opened fire on him in the limits of Town police station on Saturday evening.

He was shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital.

An official of the police station said that the constable was on routine duty when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him. `We have no information if they were on foot or on motorbike,` he said and added that the constable was stable.
