ISLAMABAD: The federal government has not asked provinces to provide a sizeable police presence to secure the capital, the ministry of information said on Monday.
The statement came a day after a notification, purportedly issued by the Cabinet Division, was circulated on social media. Under the directive, Punjab was told to supply 15,000police personnel, with Sindh contributing 8,000 and Balochistan 500 for a combined deployment of 23,500 officers by Sept 20.
However, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting later clarified that there was no such directive, terming the notification circulating on social media ‘fake and misleading’.-Dawn Report
