LARKANA: A group of unruly villagers allegedly shot dead a man and a married woman in Samai Unnar village, falling within the jurisdiction of Larkana district’s Baqapur police station, on Sunday. An FIR (No.
2026/39) was registered on behalf of the state after relatives of both the victims nominated five suspects and narrated details of the episode.
The victims were identified as Lakhmir Unnar, 40, and Nusrat alias Gujjar Khatoon, 25.
The police quoted the affected families as claiming that the assailants killed them on suspicion of an extramarital affair between them.
According to the families, Gulzar, Habib, Raheb, Barkat, Shaukat, Arshad Unnar and others came to the home of Lakhmir Unnar a rickshaw driver by profession and asked him to come out. As soon as he stepped out of his home, they started beating him up. ‘Later, his hands were tied on his back and he was shot dead,’ his brother, Mohammad Ali Unnar told the police and media personnel.
Relatives of Gujjar Khatoon told the police that the same group proceeded to the home of her uncle, Ali Gul Unnar, in the Allahabad locality of Larkana city and kidnapped her.
She was also shot dead by the group, they said, adding that Gujjar Khatoon was currently staying at her uncle’s home.
The bodies were collected by the police and transported to the Dokri Taluka Hospital for a postmortem examination.
On Monday, the bereaved families and their relatives took the bodies to the SSP Office and held a sit-in outside it demanding arrest of the killers.
The road running parallel to the SSP’s office remained blocked during the course of the sit-in.
Some senior police officers held negotiations with them and on their assurance of an early arrest of the killers, the protesters dispersed peacefully and took away the bodies for burial.
