Police officer faces corruption charges

SAHIWAL: Pakpattan District Police Officer Javed Chadhar and AntiC o r r u p t i o n Establishment Director General Sohail Zafar Chatha have taken notice of allegations of bribery and undue privileges against a DSP that went viral on social media.

Waseem Afzal, a DSP at City Circle Pakpattan, has been called to appear at DPO office on Sept 17.

According to details, a complaint by Rab Nawaz Manika, a car showroom owner, was posted on local social media, accusing DSP Afzal of taking Rs785,000 in bribes and misusing vehicles from his showroom for the personal use of his brother, retired DSP Mehr Nadeem Afzal, and his son.

The complaint also alleged that petrol was forcibly taken on a daily basis and grocer-ies and other household items were supplied to the DSP’s official residence on a regular basis by him.

On the other hand, the DSP has registered a case against a constable, alleging that he had misused his name to get bribes.

Speaking to Dawn, DSP Afzal denied all allegations of bribery.

DSP Mehr Waseem Afzal himself investigated the complaint and found that Constable Muhammad Mushtaq posted at DSP City Office, Pakpattan, had used his name and extorted money from Manika.

Later Farid Nagar Police Station registered a case on complaint of DSP Waseem Afzal against Constable Mushtaq.

Sources at DPO office confirmed that the constable had been arrested and an investigation was underway.
