LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition challenging the practice of conferring civil awards on government office-holders on national days.
Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad announced a reserved verdict on the petition filed by activist Ashba Kamran.
The petitioner in-person contended that civil awards were meant for individuals who had rendered exceptional services in their respective fields. However, she alleged, government office-holders had also been conferred such awards on national days.
The petitioner questioned whether public office-holders met the criteria prescribed for the awards. She argued that there was neither a legal nor moral justification for conferring civil awards on government personalities.
The judge, however, dismissed the petition for being not maintainable. Staff Reporter
