KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation in an effort to utilise its failed parking plaza project in Saddar on Thursday launched a free shuttle service for people to different parts of Saddar from the parking plaza.

People parking their vehicles in the parking facility could use the free shuttle service that would run between the Parking Plaza to Zainab Market via Empress Market and Singer Chowk through one route while its other route connects the parking plaza with the electronics market via Empress Market and Saddar GPO. Under the plan parking would not be allowed along the route of the free shuttle.

The parking plaza has been renovated and toilets, waiting rooms and space for prayers have been made available and its management has also been taken away from the KMC charged parking department andhandedovertothetransport and communication department.

When the parking plaza was inaugurated several years ago, the KMC had announced the operation of the free shuttle service, but the plan could not succeed owing to the underutilisation of the parking plaza.
