Pemra reply sought on plea against Maryam speeches about Imran

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought a reply from Pemra on a petition against alleged provocative statements of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz about incarcerated PTl founding chairman Imran Khan.

Justice Farooq Haider heard the petition filed by PTl leader Akmal Khan Bari, who is also a lawyer.

The petitioner raised objections to the chief minister`s remarks targeting the PTl founding chairman and the party. He argued that these speeches were not only inappropriate but were also inciting unrest among the PTl supporters.

The lawyer asked the court to direct Pemra to impose a ban on such speeches by the Punjab chief minister, declaring them detrimental to public peace and political harmony.

The judge sought a report from the electronic media regulatory authority on the petition within two weeks.

SENTENCE: An anti-terrorism court on Thursday sentenced two individuals to 14-year rigorous imprisonment each in a case of keeping explosive material.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Lahore had arrested the convicts Aminullah and Waqar Ahmad and recovered explosive material from them.

ATC-Il Judge Irfan Haider announced the guilty verdict in light of the evidence produced by the prosecution. Staff Reporter
