NCA hosts exhibition by French photographer

LAHORE: A photography exhibition ‘The Too Young Monsoon Brides’ by a French photographer, Isabeau de Rouffignac, featuring brides and flood-affected landscape, is attracting a large number of art fanciers at the National College of Arts (NCA).

The exhibition focuses on climate change and how it reshapes lives and futures of the affected communities. The photographer hascapturedthelandscape oftheareas of Pakistan affected by the 2022 floods.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Fabrice Disdier, the Alliance Française Director, alongside NCA Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Murtaza Jafri, and curator Anne Sophie Français, at the Zahoorul Akhlag Gallery.

Through intimate portraits of young brides and imagery of the flood-affected landscapes, the exhibition reflects on displacement, resilience and the human consequences of climate change.

The exhibition explores hid-den human consequences of climate change through the portraits of young brides in Pakistan whose lives have been profoundly shaped by displacement, poverty and recurrent floods. Rather than reducingtheir stories to statistics, the artist places their faces and presence at the centre of the narrative.

Each portrait emerges from an intimate moment in which the young women are invited to choose how they wish to be seen, dressed and represented.

Alongside these portraits, imagesof the flood-affected landscapes and archival photographs from the 2022 floods create a dialogue between individual lives and a changing territory.

The exhibition does not seek to speak for these young women but to create a space in which they can be seen with dignity, strength and presence. It is a reflection on childhoodinterrupted, resilience and the invisible ways in which climate change reshapes lives and futures.

The exhibition is open to visitors till Sept 18 from 10am to 4:30pm.
