PESHAWAR: Special assistant to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister for food Dr Mohammad Israr Khan on Wednesday said the province had sufficient wheat stocks and faced no threat of wheat or flour shortages.
‘Our government’s timely wheat release contributed to a decline in wheat and flour prices. Measures are being taken to maintain supplies and ensure further price stability,’ Dr Israr said during a visit to the grain godown here.
Officials told Dr Israr that 16,000 metric tonnes of wheat procured from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (Passco) were currently available, with another 4,000 metric tonnes being transported to the facility.
The aide to the CM inspected the stocks and reviewed arrangements for safe storage, quality control and future supplies.
He also examined the stock register and directed officials to ensure proper maintenance and preservation of the wheat.
Dr Israr said that the government was closely monitoring wheat availability, distribution and prices in the province to ensure consumers received flour without disruption.
He complained about the Punjab government’s ban on interprovincial movement of wheat and said that the restriction had affected wheat and flour prices in KP.
The special assistant to the chief minister said that the provincial government was taking up the matter with the federal and Punjab governments.
He said that the government would continue releasing wheat and taking other necessary measures to maintain adequate stocks and stabilise flour price in the province. APP
